It is time to hang out with your bff after school. That is the whole pitch, and for a little while it is even true. My Best Friend Yui is a psychological horror visual novel that opens on an ordinary afternoon with the person who knows you best, then slowly makes you notice how much of that friendship you have never questioned. Press Play now in the player above and it loads straight in the browser, with no download and no installer.
She is acting a little strange today. The game’s own advice is to take a deep breath, relax, and let your worries melt away, which is exactly the sort of thing a toxic friend says right before the afternoon stops being an afternoon. It is short enough to finish in a sitting and layered enough that one sitting will not show you everything.
What My Best Friend Yui is about
The framing is deliberately small. No haunted mansion, no investigation, no weapon in your hands at the start. There is a school day ending, a friend waiting, and a plan to spend a few hours together. My Best Friend Yui builds its horror out of the social pressure inside that plan: the reply you are expected to give, the question you are not supposed to ask, and how quickly saying no starts to feel dangerous.
That is what puts the game in yandere territory rather than monster territory. Affection is the threat here, not the reward. The scenes that land hardest are the ones where nothing supernatural happens at all and your friend simply keeps smiling while the conversation closes around you like a hand.
Yui, and what “a little strange” means
Yui is your best friend, and the story never lets you forget it. She has history with you, in-jokes, a tone of voice she saves for you alone. When the mask starts slipping it does not slip into a different character. It slips into a more honest version of the same one, which is why the turn lands harder than any monster reveal would.
The player character is deliberately the quieter half. You are the friend being managed. Choices in My Best Friend Yui are about how much you go along with, how much you push back, and when you decide the polite answer is no longer the safe one. Push too early and you provoke her. Push too late and you have already agreed to something.
Endings, memories, and what to collect
There are a lot of ways this afternoon can finish, and the game numbers them. The endings run past the seventh, and at least one of them turns on a hammer, so this is not a story that stops at an argument. My Best Friend Yui expects replaying: reload, take the other branch, and watch how far a single different sentence carries you.
Alongside the endings there is a memory gallery of CG artwork to fill in. Specific endings unlock specific illustrations, including a newer one attached to the hammer ending, so completion means collecting outcomes rather than clearing levels. Anyone who wants to see everything will be walking back into the same afternoon several times over.
What changed in the most recent update
The build of My Best Friend Yui on this page is the updated version from the end of July 2026. Two new jumpscares were added, one in the basement scene and one in ending 7, so anybody returning after a break should not assume the scary parts are still where they left them.
The same update rewrote the dialogue in one scene so it makes sense, gave the hammer ending its new CG memory, added audio to several scenes that used to run silent, and corrected the blood effects so they match the colour of the character they belong to. A native Android release followed on 30 July 2026, but the version embedded here is the browser build, so there is nothing to install to try it.
How the visual novel plays
Controls are as light as the genre gets. Click or press to advance the text, pick a reply when the story stops to ask, and open the menu to save, load, skip, or change settings. My Best Friend Yui asks for reading attention rather than reflexes, and a full sitting runs a few hours if you are chasing more than one outcome.
Saving before a branch is the practical tip. Because so much of the game is ending-hunting, a save placed just before a choice turns a second run into a two-minute detour instead of a restart. Reading slowly pays off too, since the script plants small details early that only make sense once you understand what Yui actually wants.
Browser and mobile notes
The embedded player is meant for quick access from this page, and a desktop or laptop browser is the most comfortable way to read My Best Friend Yui. Dialogue text, the settings menu, and the memory gallery all want screen room, and the jumpscares only do their job with sound turned on.
If the frame opens dark or silent, wait a few seconds before refreshing, since art and audio take time to initialise from a remote build. If the text feels small, launch the game first and then use the page full-screen control rather than zooming the whole browser. Browser saves live in your local site data, so avoid clearing it mid-run if you want to keep your slots and your collected memories.
Content warning
My Best Friend Yui is a horror game and not a gentle one. It contains jumpscares, blood, violence, and death, alongside obsessive and manipulative behaviour delivered through a friendship the player is meant to care about. The yandere content is the point of the story rather than a late twist.
Treat it as a mature title rather than a child-friendly visual novel, and use discretion before playing in shared spaces or around younger players. If sudden scares are a problem for you, the basement scene and the later endings are where they live, and watching the video above first is a reasonable way to check the tone before committing.
Page note
This is an unofficial browser-play page. The embedded game, title, story, characters, illustrations, and audio belong to their respective creators and owners. This page exists only to make My Best Friend Yui easier to launch, revisit, and share from one place, with the media, content notes, and troubleshooting kept together.

My Best Friend Yui FAQ
Can I play My Best Friend Yui online here?
Yes. Press Play in the browser player and the game loads on this page, with no download needed. If the frame stays black, give it a few seconds to finish loading the art and audio, refresh once, or use the full-screen control after the player starts.
What kind of game is My Best Friend Yui?
It is a choice-driven psychological horror visual novel with dating sim and yandere elements. You read, you answer, and you decide how much to go along with. There is no combat and no inventory puzzle, and a session runs a few hours.
How many endings does My Best Friend Yui have?
Several, and they are numbered. The endings run past the seventh, at least one of them turns on a hammer, and reaching them all means replaying the same afternoon with different answers.
What are the CG memories?
Endings unlock collectible artwork in a memory gallery. The ending involving a hammer received a new CG in the latest update, so completion here means collecting outcomes rather than clearing levels.
Does My Best Friend Yui have jumpscares?
Yes. The most recent version added two new ones, in the basement scene and in ending 7, so returning players should not assume the scares are where they used to be. Play with sound on if you want the intended effect.
Is My Best Friend Yui suitable for children?
No. It contains jumpscares, blood, violence, death, and obsessive, manipulative behaviour built around a friendship. Treat it as a mature horror title rather than a child-friendly visual novel.
Can I play My Best Friend Yui on mobile?
It may open on mobile browsers, but the embedded visual novel is most comfortable on desktop or laptop where dialogue text, the settings menu, and the memory gallery have room to breathe.
